It was so great to be able to talk to you yesterday. I am blessed
that I am can talk to you face to face with today's technology, and
also being able to do that with the iPads.
So to update you on a few other things that I didn't talk about
yesterday. I went in exchanges on Tuesday with Elder Peterson in
Bradenton. We had a pretty successful day and it started off with a
great church tour. This was the first time that he had meet with the
missionaries. He actually showed up the day of the temple dedication
and wasn't allowed in, but he wanted to learn more and he is super
prepared. He already knows a lot about the church from doing research
online and saw that Mormons are vegan friendly and that is what made
him interested.
On Friday we had a great lesson with Brother and Sister Horth. They
are returning members and have started coming back to church. They
were about to come to church on the day the temple dedication
broadcast was but found out that they wouldn't be able to go inside if
they went. I think that they were really hurt about this but they
have a strong desire to become worthy and prepared to go to the
temple. We went through the 15 step program on how to stop smoking
and they crushed there $50 of cigarettes they had, and threw away all
of their lighters and ash trays. It was so cool to see them make this
choice to become healthier and to receive great spiritual blessings.
We also got moved into our new apartments. This move was so much
better than the last move I had to do in St. Petersburg. That is
probably because we don't have to worry about moving couches since we
can't have them. So we just had to move beds and personal items.
There is tons of extra space in the new apartment and I can finally
have my own bathroom to myself instead of sharing with it with some
else or with three other people. Now in the mornings we aren't quite
as rushed and have more time to prepare for studies. The gym is also
a lot of fun, the equipment isn't as nice as the YouFit gym we went
to, but it works well. We can also play tennis and racquetball, so
that's a plus.
Saturday was also a really productive day. In the first 90 minutes we
had three lessons. The first was with some investigators that just
moved into our area. Right now they are under house arrest and aren't
able to leave home, but they really want to change their lifestyle to
become better examples to their kids. We found out that her foster
parents are members in our ward, so she has had the influence of the
church growing up. Later that day we meet with Sam, he is wanting to
go on a mission, and is going to wait until after graduation to start
working on his papers. We had a really good visit with him and his
mom. His mom is super supportive of him going on a mission and she
expressed how much that she wants to come back to church. She works
every Sunday and it is hard for her to come to church. She talked
about how much she has now realized that this is where she need to be.
That she needs to be that example to her husband who isn't a member,
but loves the church and supportive for Sam. They committed to have
daily personal and family prayers and scripture study. They asked for
homework for them that they can do and what chapters they can read.
I am so glad that we were able to talk together last night. We ended
up canceling the appointment we were supposed to go to because Elder
Ronfeldt had problems with the internet and he was still talking with
his family.
Loves you all.
Love Elder Leavitt
